Twenty-five contests were held in the evening session of the second competition day in the AIBA Youth Men’s and Women’s World Boxing Championships. Women’s duo from Poland Alexas Kubicka and Julia Szeremeta used their strengths to beat valued opponents on Day 2. Szeremeta eliminated Montenegro’s three-time European Champion Bojana Gojkovic in a top-quality battle.
Boxers from the women’s flyweight (57kg), featherweight (57kg), lightweight (60kg), the men’s light flyweight (49kg) and super heavyweight (+91kg) were in action during the evening session. Altogether 414 boxers including 140 women from 52 different countries are attending the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Kielce.
Poland’s European Champion Alexas Kubicka’s strength decided the contest
Poland’s Alexas Kubicka is the defending EUBC European Women’s Youth Champion in the flyweight (51kg) and she is also a top boxer of the host country at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships. The Polish girl opened the evening session in Ring A against Spain’s Gisselly Salcedo who returned to the national team a few months ago. The Spaniard had great junior results but Kubicka is one of the most powerful boxers of the weight class. The Polish talent ruled the middle of the ring and controlled the contest with her strength from the first seconds. Kubicka was confident in the bout, her hooks worked well while she landed also quicker jabs to win the debuting contest in Kielce.
Poonam, Serik and Szeremeta won the key contests of the women’s featherweight (57kg)
Several excellent bouts happened in the women’s featherweight (57kg) in the evening session of the second competition day. India’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion Poonam is an unbeaten star who eliminated Colombia’s Vanessa Arboleda in a great preliminary contest on Day 1. Poonam had to box once again on the second day but she was not tired after the debuting contest and proved a different level of boxing than Hungary’s Beata Varga. Poonam caught the inexperienced Hungarian quickly in the first minute and after the third standing count, the referee stopped the unequal contest.
Kazakhstan’s Nazerke Serik and Mongolia’s Nomin-Erdene Tugsjargal both claimed gold medals at the 2019 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and after this success, they compete in the same weight category in Kielce. The Kazakh boxer, who has strong family connections to boxing, overcame the Mongolian in the attacks, and her punctual boxing delivered for her a success. The top success of the featherweight (57kg) was achieved by Poland’s Julia Szeremeta who eliminated Montenegro’s three-time European Champion Bojana Gojkovic with smart tactical boxing.
Uzbekistan reached the top level in women’s boxing
The Uzbek youth men earned several big titles in recent years at the youth level but the country began to develop the woman boxing only in 2015. Following their strategic developments, the current youth women team is similarly strong as their men boxers. The Uzbeks arrived in Kielce with eight women boxers who are all medal contenders and their two talents proved impressive developments in the evening session of Day 2.
Sitora Turdibekova won an international event in Kazakhstan and claimed further podium places in various countries. The 18-year-old featherweight (57kg) boxer was better in all aspects of boxing than Belarus’ Maryna Muliarchyk and won all of the three rounds in each scorecard. Her teammate, ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships bronze medallist Dilfuza Bekova used her height advantage well against Hungary’s Rebeka Dobos and she also advanced to the quarter-finals in Kielce.
