The Katowice 2020 FISU University World Boxing Championships was postponed to a later date

The FISU University World Boxing Championships was postponed following the decision of the Federation Internationale du Sport Universitaire. The event was planning to host in Katowice, Poland on October 10-15 in 2020 but will be postponed to a later date due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Federation Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU) decided to postpone all of their events which were planned until November 2020 following the discussion with the host countries. FISU is following the news of the Covid-19 pandemic and the management will be checked the possibility to re-schedule the event in 2021.

Short after the Budapest AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships and the Jakarta Asian Games, the last edition of the FISU University World Boxing Championships was held in Elista, Russia on September 2018. Chinese Taipei’s Rio 2016 Olympian and AIBA Women’s World Champion Chen Nien Chin became the lone boxer in the 2018 edition of the FISU University World Boxing Championships who defended her throne.

The FISU University World Boxing Championships is a global event which holds every two years. The first edition was held in Turkey’s Antalya in 2004 and following that Almaty, Kazan, Ulaanbaatar, Yakutsk, Chiang Mai and Elista were the hosts of the FISU University World Boxing Championships.

Altogether 110 female and male boxers attended in the FISU University World Boxing Championships in Elista where thirteen weight classes were held in the six-day long competition. Host Russia topped the team rankings with their five gold medals in Elista but Belarus, Chinese Taipei, France, Hungary, Japan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan also won titles in the event.
