The Hungarian Boxing Association arranged several competitions and activities already in the year of 2021 and there is not any stoppage in their projects. Following the Bocskai, the Enekes and the Akos Toth Memorial Tournaments, their traditional Bornemissza Youth & Junior Memorial Tournament are scheduled.
The 65th edition of the Istvan Bocskai Memorial opened the series of the traditional and strong international competitions this year. The newly elected AIBA President Mr. Umar Kremlev visited the finals of the 65th Bocskai Memorial Tournament in Debrecen to follow the prestigious boxing competition. England, Finland, France, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, and Turkey shared the gold medals in the Bocskai Memorial Tournament. The number of the participating boxers was 175 including 55 women from 22 different countries and three Confederations.
Following the Bocskai Memorial Tournament, two more competitions are already done in Hungary to give chance for their boxers to increase their experiences. The Istvan Enekes Youth Memorial Tournament was held in February and their coaches used as selections for the upcoming international events. Istvan Enekes was Hungary’s second Olympic Champion in boxing who won the title of the flyweight in the Los Angeles 1932 edition.
The next Akos Toth Memorial Tournament was held in the small town of Koka near to Budapest which had also international contests. Hungary’s national team members as 16-year-old super talented Rafael Buza and Bocskai Memorial Tournament silver medallist Szabina Szucs also won their contests in Koka. Another one-day competition, the Vitanyi Memorial Tournament is scheduled to take place in Eger on March 20 where boxers from all age groups have been invited.
The Hungarians are planning to send their team to the upcoming AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships which is scheduled to be held in Kielce, Poland in April 10-24. Hungary’s capital, Budapest hosted the last edition of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in 2018 where their boxers claimed one silver and one bronze medals.
The traditional Bornemissza Youth & Junior Memorial Tournament will be held in the historical city of Eger in May 16-22 which is another old European competition in the boxing map. The event will be held for both genders and also for youth and junior boxers in order to prepare well to the next continental championships. The Bornemissza Youth & Junior Memorial Tournament has got a strong brand name, many of the European, Asian, American and African nations competed there in the recent years.
